Annual APTO Wargame
CampaignIron Meridian
Mission / Valley Guardian
A missing recon team. An unknown valley. One route to secure for the American advance.
Recon contact date; mission execution date not recorded.
Operation overview
US forces hold Feres and its airfield. With the push toward Pyrgos underway, KAG must reconnoiter the valley north of Mount Didymos, neutralize enemy support, and hold for relief.
Campaign purpose
The purpose of this wargame is to assist the AAF with a battle plan to protect the nation against potential threats.
Background
The APTO annual wargame is underway. Its primary goal is assisting the Altian government in improving its armed forces against a potential invasion. The AAF has yet to fight a conventional war. With the insurgency mostly quelled, APTO decided it was time to test whether the AAF could hold for two months, the estimated time needed for APTO reinforcement in the event of an invasion of Altis.
The United States and Tavrosk are simulating an enemy force with enough intelligence assets in the nation to conduct pushes but who must locate specific enemy positions through reconnaissance. The primary objective of the simulated enemy force, known as MISO, is to topple the Altian government and install a puppet government.

Command notes
The operation record.
This is a sustainment operation. Emphasize extra ammunition, medical supplies, AT, and grenades. Speed and aggression are essential, as uncertainty in the valley could seriously affect the main assault.
What happened
KAG troops landed at LZ Alpha and pushed toward the valley while the AAF launched a counterattack and locked down the airspace. After clearing a roadblock, KAG moved to an observation point on Mount Didymos, identified an artillery base, and used Nightmare to strike the MLRS trucks. Ground troops then assaulted and secured the base, holding it until US forces relieved them. Kodiak suffered only air losses due to red air.
Situation & mission orders
Situation
The US Army established a foothold in Feres and its airfield. A platoon of Marines and the Kodiak Airmobile Guard were assigned to help clear a path to the capital of Pyrgos. On 9/12 a Marine reconnaissance team was sent north of the foothold to map enemy support and defensive positions. Around 1800 local they went radio silent near the valley north of Mount Didymos.
Mission
Kodiak must pick up where the recon team left off, survey the valley, determine its use, and act quickly to prevent disruption to the main assault. If the valley is used as a transport route, minefields and ambushes are to stop reinforcements. If it is used as a support base, such as artillery or a FARP, the support position must be destroyed and seized. Once secured, the unit will hold until American troops arrive, then extract via LZ Bravo.
Friendly & enemy forces
Friendly forces
The American attack has three phases and includes infantry and CAS assets entering the AO.
Enemy forces
Expect motorized infantry, little to no armor, and the possibility of an AAF QRF. Hostile air activity is a concern, especially near the main highway.
